Kayakers paddling the calm waters of the Shannon Blueway between green banks

At the estate gate

The Shannon Blueway

The Blueway trailhead is a stone’s throw from the estate entrance. Turn left out of the gate and the canal path carries you north towards Drumshanbo — flat, traffic-free, and good for any pair of legs or wheels.

You’ll pass locks where boats work their way between loughs, herons stationed at intervals, and finally the floating boardwalk across Acres Lake — a length of timber decking laid directly on the water. At the Drumshanbo end there’s a playground, tennis courts and a heated outdoor pool in season; Jinny’s Tea Rooms, The Jackalope Café and Alens Bistro are all within reach when you’ve earned them.

On the water. Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding run from local operators on this same stretch — gentle, sheltered water that’s kind to first-timers.

On wheels. The e-bike hire in Leitrim Village delivers to the estate — adult and children’s bikes, child carriers, helmets, no minimum age. Ask at booking or at reception.
